Mid-term evaluation: improving our production ideas further
After we started filming for our trailer using the initial storyboard for "Textback", we had a further group discussion about the content so far and realised that we wanted to add more traditional horror iconography and tropes - our initial work so far had produced more of a psychological thriller.
We therefore decided to re-draft the storyboard to include props such as a knife and mask to emphasise the horror aspect and appeal more to our target demographic interested in the horror genre. We wanted the "evil doctor" as a more conventional or even "tropey" antagonist. However, we also decided to include a female killer helping the doctor, which goes against the stereotypes.
We also planned to include more fast cuts and jump cuts in our editing to build suspense.
Finally, we discussed the title and realised that this didn't quite articulate the theme of the film. We thought a title with more impact would be "Experiment 1", which is also more snappy on the poster.
